A Jewish settler attacked Wednesday an IDF officer and a soldier with tear gas next to the illegal outpost of Adei Ad, lightly injuring both. According to the IDF, the attack happened after representatives of the District Coordination and Liaison of Ramallah, among whom are the two soldiers, were called to the scene following a report on a politically motivated crime.

Arik Ascherman, a left-wing activist who was present at the location of the attack, told Haaretz that a DCL officer arrived to the area to talk to a Palestinian farmer who witnessed an arson. According to Ascherman, about ten Jewish settlers came and started yelling at the Officer “how could you bring him to our home,” referring to the Palestinian farmer. Ascherman added that he, too, was sprayed with tear gas.

On Monday, dozens of settlers attacked Border Police officers near Yitzhar settlement in the West Bank while they tried to dismantle a tent in a closed military area. One of the policemen was slightly injured and three Border Police vehicles were damaged.

The commander of the attacked group, Superintendent Hagai Saban, said Tuesday that the soldiers did not use much means for dispersing demonstrations “because we are inside a Jewish community, and we understand that.”

According to an IDF statement, Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi “strongly condemns the violence against Border Policemen” and added that “this is criminal behavior which requires a quick and vigorous execution of judgement.”
